Several weeks ago, a major real estate developer in Miami unveiled plans to build a 50-story tower on Alton Road. However, the developer recently informed locals and the Miami Herald that his plans to build condos, a six-story waterfall, and a three-acre public park are on hold because of the city’s decision to create a master plan for the area. Although many Miami Beach residents believe that the area in which the developer intended to build is in desperate need of improvement, the developer, understandably, wants to find out what the city plans to do with the area before committing to such a large-scale project.
Apparently, the city is looking at creating master plans for several important areas of the city, including Lincoln Road, North Beach, and Alton Road. Hopefully, the city’s plans will mesh, or at least not hinder, some developers’ intentions as a lot of progress has been made throughout the beach. The city itself certainly has some great ideas. Officials want to create green space and foster the creation of local, small businesses. Such developments will, of course, be welcome additions for Miami Beach condo dwellers.
The city also mentioned a desire to make way for office buildings in order to attract start-up companies, something that looks like a real possibility for Miami. Even though we were excited at the developer’s proposal, especially considering the current state of that particular area, we are pleased to learn that both government officials and private companies are interested in further augmenting the Miami Beach community. And, it will certainly be interesting to see what additional positive changes the city will undergo under its new leadership!
