This past week Forbes released its list of the happiest cities to work in America, and the verdict is… Miami happiest place to work according to the popular magazine. This list is generated fairly regularly by looking at a multitude of factors, such as work-life balance, employee’s relationship with their bosses, relationships between co-workers, general work environment, compensation, opportunities for advancement, company culture, and resources. Career website CareerBliss originally produced the list before Forbes by looking at these eight factors, and as CEO and co-founder of the site, Heidi Golledge said “where you live can definitely impact your overall happiness and even your perceived happiness in your career. If the majority of companies in a city foster a work environment that encourages career growth and time to enjoy a lifestyle outside of work, there is a very high chance that employees in that city are going to be happier with their jobs then in cities with work cultures who have less work life balance and career growth.” According to Golledge, start-ups are the key to the revamped feel of Miami, as they are starting to relocate from LA to the sunny corner of the east coast. The new opportunities and young, innovative feel that they bring inspires workers to be more excited about their jobs and happier as a result. Another factor is the sunny climate, which is a persistent element for all the cities that top the list with Sacramento, CA; Las Vegas, NV; Orlando, FL; and Washington DC rounding out the top five.
