0 Art Basel Comes to Miami

Art Basel Opening Night

This week, Miami is hosting Art Basel, various exhibitions and art events that have been said to be the winter reunion for the international art world. The show this year boasts work from 267 galleries and 4,000 artists from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa. The main exhibition hall of the show will hold paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, films, and also exciting are the large displays of artwork, film and performance that will become a part of the city’s landscape in Collins Park and SoundScape Park.

While some Art Basel events just for those invited Wednesday will also be the opening night to the public with an event at Collins Park that is not to be missed. The opener will be curated by Nicholas Baume, Director and Chief Curator of Public Art Fund in New York. There will be several amazing performances that will take advantage of the Park’s landscape.

The Art Basal website describes one of the performances for the opening night:

“Two extremely athletic and muscular men perform a choreographed tractor- tire routine along one of the long pathways in Collins Park. On an adjacent path, a female tai chi master moves through a series of slow, controlled and uid tai chi forms. These disparate approaches to manipulating the body and space underscore cultures of extreme athleticism and the highly competitive, yet self-improving, ethos of the contemporary art world.”

Bound to be fascinating and fun to watch, the event is completely free to the general public and not to be missed!
