Besides drawing in A-list celebrities and Floridian art fans, Art Basel also shows that Miami is an international city. Art Basel and accompanying art fairs in Miami Beach transform the city and has been called the biggest and most important art event in the Americas, of the winter.
NBC News recently wrote an article showing how all of the Caribbean and Latin America is strongly represented at the show. Overall, there are thirty two countries represented in the show.
“The hum of Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese can be heard throughout the great hall in all its shades and accents. The entirety of Latin America and the Caribbean is represented in the offerings as well as the players and it makes for a thrilling show,” the NBC article said.
Henrique Faria, a gallery owner in Latin America, said, “The most interesting thing about Latin America is the fact that it is highly unknown to most people. If you come to a gallery like ours you will find things from the sixties, from the seventies, from the eighties, from the nineties and absolutely contemporary. There are other galleries from Brazil from Argentina from Colombia that are here. If you want to find out the very best of what Latin America has to offer, you have to come to Art Basel and visit the Latin American galleries, period.”
If you are interested in Latin American art, or art from all over the world for that matter, Art Basel sure does offer it to you. The world famous art show allows you to travel outside of the US just by staying in the backyard of Miami Beach.
