If you are looking at homes, of course it is important that your wants and needs are met. A home is a big investment and commitment, so you may find yourself picky as a homebuyer. However, the market is currently defined by tight inventory. Your absolutely perfect dream home may not be easy to find. Real estate professional Dana Gonzalez of Denville, New Jersey actually told realtor.com that she predicts that buyers will need to make one of the following property compromises: price, location, and size/style/upgrades. Do not be disappointed though! There are property compromises that may be worth it for you and you will still be happy in your new home.
Worthy Property Compromises
Location: “While they might want to find a home that is within walking distance to the downtown area with shops, restaurants and public transportation, buyers do not want to compromise on their living space,” says Suzy Minken, a real estate professional in Short Hills, N.J. “After all, they live in the home. Sometimes these homes are too small to fit their lifestyle needs, or the larger in-town homes are simply above their price range. So the dream of a walk-to-town location very often will get removed from a buyer’s must-have list.”
Yard Size: Dreaming of sweeping landscapes and a field for your children to run around in? Huge yards may be hard to find right now. However, many buyers might not actually need/want a yard as big as they think. Minken said that she found that many buyers say they want a large yard- or one at least big enough to fit a swing set, a size not as difficult to find.
Architecture: “Whether it be the architectural style of the house or type of kitchen counters, those things are one of the first things mentioned when clients tell me what they want,” says Amber Dolle, a real estate professional Sherman Oaks, Calif. “But when compromises have to be made, and they’ve had time to look at homes for a bit and consider their budget, the home’s aesthetics usually are the thing they choose to overlook.” A home’s style might not be perfect for you, but those details can be worthy to overlook and sacrifice for other aspects, like price.
