There are so many words to describe environmentally friendly real estate. For example there is green, eco-friendly, energy efficient, and more. According to a recent article by UExpress.com, many of these words mean the same thing, but the one you choose could improve the value of your home or one you’re selling. Their article says that there are certain words describing environmentally friendly real estate that consumers perceive as more valuable than others.
How to Describe Environmentally Friendly Real Estate
Consumers say that they perceive “eco-friendly” as more valuable than a “green” home. The National Association of of Home Builders did a study to find how much home buyers know about eco-friendly home features. However, they also found how certain buzz words have an effect. They found that 68 percent of those surveyed found value lying in an “eco-friendly” home, compared to 32 percent who said a “green” home gave the most perceived value.
Researchers have also found these preferences:
Use “environmentally friendly” rather than “green conscious.”
Use “energy efficient” house and not “high-efficiency” home.
Use “water-saving” in place of “low-flow.”
Use “lower utility bills” instead of “reduced energy use.”
Use “healthy living environment” rather than “nontoxic materials.”
“The industry throws around a lot of words consumers don’t understand,” Suzanne Shelton of the Shelton Group, a marketing and communications firm that focuses on energy and the environment, told the publication UExpress. She used the example “net zero” that her company uses in studies. To them, it means a home that uses no energy. However to home buyers, the term can sound negative.
Shelton’s company’s studied “energy-related buzz words” themselves. They found that the terms “green,” “eco-friendly” and “sustainable” registered as “expensive” with about 3 out of 4 consumers.
Being conscious of the environment is important today. Many home buyers want to live in a house that is not negatively impacting the world around them. However, it is less obvious that is important to be conscious of the environmental words you are using as well. Looking for a home in Miami that is environmentally friendly as well?
